How we work

How we decide what to tell you

The thinking behind an answer is complicated. Reading it shouldn't be. Here's what sits underneath every recommendation on this site.

Three kinds of truth, kept apart

What the vendor says

Pricing, plans, limits and features, taken from the company's own documentation and dated when we checked it.

What we researched

Our own comparison and judgement: what it's genuinely good at, what it doesn't replace, and the manual work still left over.

What we actually ran

Only marked when someone here has really done it. If a workflow hasn't been tested hands-on, the page says it was checked against official documentation instead.

We never dress up a documentation check as hands-on experience.

We recommend a sequence, not a shopping list

Tools only matter in relation to each other and to the order you do things in. So each answer tells you what to keep, what to add now, what can wait, and, rarely, what to replace. Something already working stays unless the benefit clearly beats the cost of moving.

Keep

It works well enough. Moving would cost more than it gains.

Add now

A real gap that's blocking your next step.

Add next

Needed soon, but not before the thing in front of it.

Not yet

You'd be paying for something you can't use yet.

Replace

Only when the benefit clearly outweighs the disruption.

How the money works

Some outbound links earn a commission. That's what funds the research, and it's disclosed on every page.

The order it happens in matters. Fit for your business and the quality of the product set the bar first, and anything that doesn't clear that bar is off the list before money is ever considered. Only among options that are genuinely equal or near-equal for your situation can the commercial side settle which one we lead with. We will not knowingly put a worse fit in front of you because it pays more.

Plenty of our answers make us nothing: keep what you have, use the free plan, do it yourself, wait.

Staying current

Pricing and features move. Facts carry the date they were verified, sources are recorded, and nothing changes on the site until it's been reviewed and approved.
