JobberField service operations

Field service software that runs the whole job, from request and quote through scheduling, invoicing and payment.

Best for solo through small and mid size field and home service operators whose workflow is relatively straightforward: scheduling and dispatch, quotes, jobs, recurring work and memberships, hourly or simple labour and material billing, invoicing and payment, client communication, and basic job costing. Workflow complexity matters far more than headcount here.

Not for
A business that is not service based and simply wants a CRM. Also contractors who need extremely deep pricebooks, granular material assemblies and cost breakdowns, sophisticated dispatch or call centre handling, or enterprise revenue reporting. A deeper business may outgrow the operational detail long before it outgrows the nominal user count.
Difficulty
easy to set up.
Builds
Running the everyday service workflow end to end: a request comes in, you quote it, it goes on the schedule, the crew works it on a phone, the invoice goes out and the payment comes back.

Our experience

We used Jobber to build Biz Spouse, along with other websites and web apps. That is real experience with the parts we have used, not a claim that we have tested every feature.

  • Running a service business on Jobber from day one

Starting a service business with no operating system in place and needing quotes, a schedule and invoices working immediately.

The whole request to payment loop ran inside one tool from the start, and the product has kept getting better over the years of use.

Watch out, This is the owner speaking as an operator of a service business, not a benchmark against every competitor.

    Hands-on

  • Using the AI Receptionist as overflow and after hours cover

Calls arriving outside working hours, during jobs, and from people who are not customers at all.

Around seven or eight out of ten once customised. It filters spam and unwanted calls well and covers after hours and overflow, and forwarding works as expected.

Watch out, Some real customers dislike talking to AI. Pointing every call at it creates friction with the people you most want to keep. Treat it as overflow and after hours cover rather than a replacement for a human answering the phone.

    Hands-on

Reality check

Where it earns its place, and where it doesn't.

Where it earns its place

What it takes off your plate

Paper schedules, a spreadsheet of jobs, a separate quoting document and a separate invoicing tool.

Where it makes sense

Buy it as soon as the schedule and the quoting stop fitting in your head or a spreadsheet, which for most service businesses is right at the start.

What it really costs

Priced per user with sizeable steps between tiers, so cost tracks the crew rather than the revenue. Payment processing fees sit on top.

Where it doesn't

Marketing vs reality

Jobber sells itself as simple software for service businesses, and in practice that is what it is. It does not pretend to be an enterprise operations platform, and the experience matches the pitch.

What it does not replace

Accounting. Books still live in an accounting system, with QuickBooks Online sync available on Connect and above. It is also not a general purpose sales CRM for a non service business.

Work still left to you

Building your own price list, deciding your own scheduling rules, and answering the calls Jobber routes to you.

When it's a waste

Wasteful if you have almost no recurring jobs and only invoice occasionally, where a simple invoicing tool is enough.

Getting your work back out

Your customer list, quotes, jobs and invoice history all live inside Jobber. Exports and the API exist, but moving to another operating platform is a real project.

Where it goes wrong

The problems you'll actually hit

  1. Customers push back on the AI answering the phone

People hang up, complain that they could not reach a person, or say the call felt automated.

The receptionist is pointed at every call rather than at overflow. Plenty of customers simply do not want to talk to AI, and a service business runs on that relationship.

    What to do

Use it for overflow, after hours and spam, not for everything

Forward the number only outside working hours and when the line is already busy, keep normal hours pointed at a person, and set transfer rules so anything sounding like a real job reaches you. Then customise the wording until it sounds like your business rather than a generic assistant. Used this way it is around seven or eight out of ten, and the spam filtering alone earns its place.

  2. Quotes need more detail than Jobber wants to give

You are working around the pricing screen, keeping material breakdowns in a spreadsheet, or cannot see cost per line the way you need to.

Jobber is deliberately simple. Deep pricebooks and granular material assemblies are not what it was built for.

    What to do

Try optional line items and job costing before moving anything

Grow adds advanced quote customization, optional line items and job costing with profitability, which covers most of what feels missing. If it still does not fit after that, the honest answer is that the work has outgrown the tool, and Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan are the direction to look. Do not leave over a feature that a plan change fixes.

  3. The monthly cost jumps as the crew grows

The bill rises sharply each time you add seats, and the useful features sit on the plan above the one you are on.

Pricing is per user with large steps between tiers, and job costing, two way SMS and the receptionist live on higher plans.

    What to do

Match the plan to the feature you actually need, and take the annual price

Work out which single feature is forcing the upgrade, since Connect covers reminders, follow ups and QuickBooks sync while Grow is what adds job costing and two way SMS. Committing to a year or paying annually lowers the monthly figure meaningfully on every tier. Prices move, so check the official pricing page before deciding.

Against the alternatives

When Jobber is the answer, and when it isn't

  • Jobber vs

A field service business deciding between a simple operating platform and a deep one.

Jobber wins when you need the core service workflow working now without enterprise complexity. It is not as detailed as ServiceTitan, and it is much simpler, which is exactly the trade the owner would make again for straightforward work.

When wins, ServiceTitan wins once operational depth justifies the complexity: granular pricebooks and material assemblies, sophisticated dispatch and call handling, and enterprise revenue reporting.

From Dom · as of September 2026 · Owner comparison from running a service business, set against public positioning from both vendors.

  • Jobber vs Housecall Pro

A home service business that wants more detail than Jobber gives without going enterprise.

Jobber stays the easier system to run day to day, and easy is what actually gets used by a crew.

When Housecall Pro wins, Housecall Pro is worth a look when you want deeper breakdowns and operational detail than Jobber offers but ServiceTitan is more than the business needs.

From Dom · as of September 2026 · Owner observation. Housecall Pro has not been researched as a Biz Spouse product record.

  • Jobber vs Independent review data

Sanity checking the operator view against independent user reviews.

Independent comparison data collected by Software Advice and updated on 8 September 2026 rates Jobber 4.6 out of 5 across 1,480 reviews in that dataset, with an easy interface and streamlined operations recurring as strengths, and glitches and integration issues among the complaints.

When Independent review data wins, ServiceTitan sits at 4.3 out of 5 across 340 reviews in the same dataset. This is third party context, not a Biz Spouse score.

Editorial score 9 · confidence 5/5

Nine out of ten for a field or home service business whose work is scheduling, quotes, jobs, invoices and payments. That score is not a general CRM score. Outside service work it is the wrong tool, because Jobber is field service management that happens to keep customer records, not a general purpose CRM.

Working with AI

Developer API onlyIt has a developer API, but we found no official AI connection.

No official connector that lets ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini work inside Jobber. Jobber has its own AI features, including automations, rewriting and an AI Receptionist that answers calls and texts, and it publishes a developer platform with OAuth 2.0, a GraphQL API and webhooks, so a custom or automation based link is possible.

Worth knowing: Jobber AI voice and chat is in beta. Its scope is not treated as settled here.
