Run Facebook, Instagram, Google and TikTok ads from one place, without an agency.
Best for an owner who already has their own photos and video, is done paying a marketing company that reports impressions instead of customers, and wants those assets tested properly and honestly.

- Not for
- Someone with no creative of their own who expects the tool to produce finished video for them. That is exactly the part of Plai that is not good yet.
- Difficulty
- moderate to set up, about an hour to a first version.
- Builds
- Taking the photos, videos, headlines and descriptions you already have and testing them against each other continuously across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Google and the rest, until it is clear which combinations actually bring in business and which ones are quietly wasting your money.
Our experience
Bring your own photos and video, and let it test them until something works
An owner who already has creative, has been burned by marketing companies that charge a retainer and report impressions rather than customers, and wants ads running across several channels without learning Meta's own ad system.
Roughly twenty images and twenty videos tested continuously against multiple headlines and descriptions, with reporting that shows what is actually happening rather than a flattering impressions deck. As a full marketing tool it is excellent, and it removes the need to operate Meta's own ad platform by hand.
Watch out, The AI generated creative is the weak spot. Still images are usable, generated video is not good enough to run with, so this is the go to product when you already have content of your own. Meta also connects directly to only a couple of CRMs, so lead handoff may stay manual. This is first hand use by the founder of Biz Spouse, not a guaranteed result for every business.
Hands-on
Reality check
Where it earns its place, and where it doesn't.
Where it earns its place
What it takes off your plate
Logging into Facebook Ads Manager, Google Ads and TikTok Ads separately.
Where it makes sense
When you already have content in hand and want to stop guessing which version of it works. That is the moment Plai earns its keep, because it is a testing engine and it needs something to test.
What it really costs
Plai's own pricing page states $97/month for one brand and $297/month for up to eight, with Plai-managed ad spend included up to $20k/month and a 2.5% fee above that. Your ad spend is separate and paid to the ad platforms.
Where it doesn't
Marketing vs reality
It is sold as an all in one AI marketing platform. The reality is that the value sits in two places: the testing engine, and reporting that tells you the truth. Most marketing companies are not held accountable for results. They take a monthly fee, report impressions and reach, and hand you a good looking deck that never answers whether anyone actually became a customer. Plai answers that question. The AI generated creative it advertises alongside all of that is the weakest part of the product and is not the reason to buy it.
What it does not replace
A strategy. It will run whatever campaign you point it at, good or bad.
Work still left to you
Producing the creative itself, and moving leads into your CRM where Meta has no direct connection to it.
When it's a waste

Where it goes wrong
The problems you'll actually hit
You have nothing for it to test
You open Plai, and the only creative you can give it is one photo and one line of text.
Plai works by running many combinations of images, videos, headlines and descriptions against each other until the winners are obvious. With two assets there is nothing to compare, so the testing engine, which is the whole reason to use it, sits idle and you learn nothing from your spend.
What to do
Load the work you have already done
Before you spend anything, gather what already exists: photos of finished jobs, short clips taken on a phone, before and after shots, a customer saying one useful sentence. Aim for roughly twenty images and twenty videos rather than a perfect few. Write five or six different headlines and the same number of short descriptions. That volume is what the platform needs in order to find the combination that works, and it costs you time rather than money.
From Dom · as of September 2026 · Dominic runs Plai this way: a large pool of real material fed in at the start, then continuous testing across images, videos, headlines and descriptions until the winners separate themselves.
What to do
If you have no content, fix that before you fix the ads
Plai is at its best when you already have content. If you genuinely have nothing to show, spend the first week producing material rather than buying traffic. A day on site with a phone produces more usable ad creative than any amount of budget spent on an empty account.
From Dom · as of September 2026 · Dominic's position: with existing content this is the go to product, without it the platform has nothing to work with.
The AI generated video looks cheap
You use the built in generation to produce video ads and the result does not look like something you would put your name on.
Plai will generate creative for you, and the still images are usable, but generated video is the weakest part of the product. It is offered as a convenience rather than as the reason to buy the platform, so treating it as your main source of video ads produces ads that undercut the business they are advertising.
What to do
Use the generated stills, shoot your own video
Treat generated still images as fair game, they hold up well enough to test. For video, use footage you took yourself, even if it is a plain phone clip of the actual work. A real thirty second clip of the job being done beats a polished generic animation, and it beats the platform's generated video comfortably.
From Dom · as of September 2026 · Dominic's direct assessment of where the generation feature holds up and where it does not.
The reports look great and nobody has called
Impressions, reach and clicks all climb. The phone does not ring and no enquiries arrive.
Impressions are the easiest number to move and the least connected to revenue. Marketing is routinely reported this way because it always looks like progress. Unless you decide up front that cost per enquiry is the number you judge on, a healthy looking report will keep a campaign alive long after it has stopped earning its money.
What to do
Decide the only number that counts before you launch
Write down, before the campaign goes live, what one enquiry is worth to you. After two weeks, divide what you spent by the number of real enquiries you received. That figure is the verdict. Continue, change or stop on that number alone, and ignore impressions, reach and engagement entirely when making the call.
From Dom · as of September 2026 · Dominic's stated reason for preferring Plai over an agency: it shows the reality rather than a report built out of impressions.
What to do
Read spend and results in one place
Plai puts spend and performance across the connected platforms into a single view, so you are not reconciling three dashboards. Use it to pull the two numbers you actually need, total spend and number of enquiries, rather than reading it as a performance report.
Official source · Plai's own documentation for combined spend and results reporting.
Meta Ads Manager defeated you
You tried running ads directly in Meta, got lost in campaign, ad set and ad layers, and either overspent or gave up.
Meta exposes an enormous surface built for full time media buyers. A single owner running their own ads does not need most of it, and the parts they do need are buried. Plai is a simpler shell over the same ad platforms, which is the practical reason most owners end up there.
What to do
Run Meta through Plai rather than directly
Connect your Facebook Page and ad account to Plai and build the campaign there. You keep the same reach and the same ad platform underneath, without the layered interface that causes most of the overspending. You still need to be an admin of the Page, so sort that out first.
From Dom · as of September 2026 · Dominic's view: Meta is far too complicated a system to run directly as an owner, and this is the practical way around it.
Leads are not landing in your CRM
Enquiries come in through the ad platform and stay there, so nobody follows them up quickly.
Ad platforms connect natively to a limited set of CRMs, not to all of them. Whether your particular CRM is one of them has to be checked rather than assumed, and where it is not, someone has to move the leads across manually or the enquiries you paid for go cold.
What to do
Check the connection exists before you rely on it
Do not assume your CRM is connected. Confirm in your ad platform and your CRM whether a native connection exists between them. If it does not, agree a daily routine for exporting new leads and entering them, and treat that as part of the campaign cost. An enquiry that sits unread for three days was paid for and wasted.
Biz Spouse research · Native ad platform to CRM coverage varies by CRM and is not something we have verified for every tool in this catalogue.

Decide continue, change or stop on the only number that matters.
Ignores impressions entirely and gives you a cost per enquiry and a decision.

Find the one thing to change before spending more.
Works through offer, creative, audience and destination in order, and returns one change.
Against the alternatives
When Plai is the answer, and when it isn't
Plai vs A marketing agency on retainer
Getting enquiries for a small local business
An agency takes a monthly fee and is rarely held to a result you can check. The reporting tends to be built out of impressions and reach, which always look like progress. Running it yourself through Plai keeps the fee small, puts the spend under your control, and leaves you looking at what an enquiry actually cost. If you already have content, this is the stronger option.
When A marketing agency on retainer wins, When you have no time at all and no content, and you would rather pay for the work to be produced and managed than do it. An agency that commits to a cost per lead in writing, and reports against it, is a legitimate alternative.
From Dom · as of September 2026 · Dominic's position after working with marketing companies: they take the money, are not accountable for results, and report on impressions.
Plai vs Meta Ads Manager used directly
Running Facebook and Instagram ads as the owner
Meta's own tool is built for full time media buyers, and the layers of campaign, ad set and ad are where owners lose money without realising. Plai sits over the same ad platform with a smaller surface, and runs continuous testing across your images, videos, headlines and descriptions rather than leaving you to set that up by hand.
When Meta Ads Manager used directly wins, When you have an experienced media buyer, or you need controls Plai does not expose. Meta direct is also the answer when you want to avoid a second subscription and you already know the tool.
From Dom · as of September 2026 · Dominic's direct comparison of the two, based on running campaigns himself.

Editorial score 0 · confidence 4/5
Used first hand and judged on results rather than reports. It is the strongest option we know for testing creative you already own, across several channels, without an agency retainer and without operating Meta's own ad system. It is not the answer if you need the tool to make the video for you.
Official help and documentation: good
Working with AI
Plai uses AI inside its own product to build and optimise campaigns, but there is no published way to point your own AI assistant at it.
Worth knowing: Plai's enterprise page mentions API access through sales, with no public documentation. A third party publishes a Plai connector that Plai itself does not list.
Official source · as of September 2026 · Nothing on Plai's own site documents a self-serve API or an AI connector.
